Punjab sets ball rolling for the Preparation of “State Energy Efficiency Action Plan” for
achieving zero carbon economy.
The commitments made by India in the Glasgow, UK submit call for a robust energy transition action plan in all sectors of the economy, so as to achieve the targets of reducing the carbon intensity of its economy to less than 45 percent by 2030. Accordingly, Punjab has initiated an exercise in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power and BEE engaged ASSOCHAM to work on preparation of State Energy Efficiency Action Plan & organize Stakeholder workshops with the officers from various Govt.

Departments to evolve the roadmap for achieving the energy transition Goals. In this regard, first Stakeholder Consultation Workshop organized by PEDA which was chaired by Sh. H.S. Hanspal, Chairman, Punjab Energy Development Agency, on 28th April 2022 at Shivalik View, Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. H.S. Hanspal, Chairman PEDA being Chief Guest of the session said that energy conservation is an eminent necessity keeping in view the global climatescenario. The National goal for achieving a zero carbon economy by 2070 cannot be achieved unless we have a well planned action plan and road map. Policy and interdepartmental cohesion will be the key instruments in achieving such goals. He exhorted the officers to contribute gainfully in this exercise to analyze the areas where more efforts are required to enhance energy

conservation and efficiency in the state of Punjab.
Sh. Paramjit Singh, Senior Manager, PEDA said that in this exercise, extensive data collection,review of the existing policies in the state, identifying key stakeholders in various sectors and identification of a focus-sector in Punjab based on the potential of energy savings in that sector will be the key activities.

Amarendra Kumar, Chief General Manager, IOCL, Project Engineers PEDA Sh. Money Khanna, Sh. Rohit Kumar & Sh. Sharad Sharma and Sh. Neeraj Sharma, Dr Sunil from ASSOCHAM were also present during the meeting.

The workshop was attended by more than 50 Senior Government Officers and Officials from various stakeholder departments from the State. ASSOCHAM presented the inception report & surveys for the stakeholders’ inputs and suggestions to be incorporated in the action plan & their suggestions were noted.
